New Music Director, Christopher Raymond, Joins VOS

On Friday, January 11th, our new Music Director, Christopher Raymond, will debut in a Shabbat service.

Christopher is a highly acclaimed young composer, lyricist, conductor, and orchestrator who has won an NAACP Award, a Stage Raw Award and a Broadway World Award for his work in musical theatre.

At the age of 15, Christopher began his career playing in the band for “13 the Musical” at the Kirk Douglas Theatre and Mark Taper Forum.  He then continued to Broadway, playing for “13 the Musical” at the age of 17Christopher music-directed, conducted and played piano for 14 large-scale musicals for DOMA Theatre Company in Hollywood, including their production of “Dreamgirls,” which was awarded “Best Musical” at the LA Weekly Awards and at the LA Drama Critics Circle Awards.  Christopher was the Music Director, Composer and Orchestrator for several theatre-award shows in Los Angeles held at venues such as the Ahmanson and The Theatre at Ace Hotel.  He co-wrote the theme song for the show “Troy,” which opened at the 80,000-seat Beijing National Stadium in July of 2017. Christopher wrote the book, music and lyrics for “Scarlet Letter: The Musical,” which was recently performed at the Greenway Court Theatre in Hollywood. In addition to work in musical theater, Christopher wrote music for film and television.

Christopher considers Judaism to be the most important part of his life and  describes himself as “truly blessed and honored to be joining the wonderful VOS Community.” He aims to harness the incredible music talent that exists in the VOS community and to further Music Director Jack Bielan’s commitment to musical excellence and innovation.
