The Butterfly Project
We’re excited to announce a new VOS Mitzvah Project! We’ll be supporting The Butterfly Project in many ways. If you attended our Yom HaShoah Commemoration, then you already know what a true mitzvah this will be. If you’re not familiar with The Butterfly Project, it is a call to action through the arts, using the lessons of the Holocaust to educate about the dangers of hatred and bigotry through the painting of ceramic butterflies, permanently displayed around the world to memorialize each of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust. Paired with a meaningful lesson in history, handmade ceramic butterflies are counted collectively to reach the goal of 1.5 million butterflies displayed around the world, a global memorial symbolizing renewed life. The butterflies that our congregants painted on Yom HaShoah will be installed at VOS!
We’re going to start by helping to put the butterfly kits together. We’ll be putting individual butterflies into bubble wrap packs, counting paint brushes, and squirting glaze into those little plastic strips! At the same time, we’re going to talk about ways we can help spread the word on social media, in schools, synagogues, churches, scout troops, etc., and otherwise support this wonderful cause. It will be fun, empowering, and very worthwhile!
Please contact Julie Goren at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot for our kickoff on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. Space is limited. All ages welcome!
